JAMMU, Aug 21: The PHE workers held strong protest demonstration with a difference by pulling out their shirts and under-shirts at Chief Engineer’s office at B C Road, Jammu while the strike of the agitating workers continued in support of their pending demands on the 63rd consecutive day today.
The daily rated and consolidated workers of the Jal Shakti/ PHE Department are on strike since June 22. They are demanding regularisation of their services, release of pending wages and enhancement of their wages. The Government failed to resolve their issues despite several rounds of talks with higher senior officers of the department.
On 63rd day of their protest, a large number of workers from various PHE Divisions and Sub Divisions/ water stations assembled in the office complex of Chief Engineer PHE Jammu, at BC Road in the morning under the banner of PHE Employees United Front and staged protest demonstration. They were in semi-naked position shouting slogans against the LG’s administration and BJP.
After holding protest demonstration for some time, then they sat on day long dharna in the PHE Complex BC Road. Some Union leaders addressed the gathering and criticized the LG’s administration for its indifferent attitude towards working class. They said public was suffering due to water shortage but the authorities were ignorant of their problems.
The employees leaders including Ravi Hans and others said that two months are over but the higher authorities have failed to resolve their issues. Even the Lt Governor during meeting had assured to resolve their issues within two months but nothing happened even after that. They claimed that workers will intensify their struggle.
The United Front leaders appealed to the Lt Governor to solve the pending issues of the PHE workers who are demanding regularization, implementation of Minimum Wages Act as per Central norms in J&K UT and release of pending wages of 70 months of PHE workers.
