JAMMU, Aug 21: The prevalence of heart disease and stroke has increased by over 50 per cent in India between 1990 and 2016. The contribution of these diseases to total deaths and disease burden in the country has almost doubled in last 25 years. Simultaneously Ayushman Bharat Yojana has come to rescue of patients suffering from cardiac ailments and has proved a great boon in performing life saving cardiac procedures free of cost thus fulfilling the concept of affordable and equitable healthcare.
This was stated by Dr Sushil Sharma, HoD Cardiology GMC Jammu.
With aim to create more and more awareness regarding the benefits of this programme as far as managing cardiac ailments is concerned, a cardiac awareness cum health check up camp was organised under the guidance of Dr Sushil Sharma along with team of doctors and paramedical staff at Shiv Mandir Hall, Apna Vihar, Kunjwani, Jammu. More than 200 people were screened, diagnosed and evaluated for cardiovascular diseases and other health ailments. Tests like ECG, Blood Sugar and HBA1C were conducted and medicines were also given as per the requirements and simultaneously people were educated regarding the benefits of Ayushman Bharat Yojana and encouraged to avail treatment free of cost at par with any best cardiac centres worldwide.
While interacting with the patients, Dr Sushil stated that The Ayushman Bharat Yojana, now called the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY), aims to be one of the world’s largest health insurance schemes. “It is essentially a health insurance scheme to cater to the poor, lower section of the society and the vulnerable population. The scheme offers financial protection in case of hospitalization due to medical emergencies. Since its inception major beneficiaries have been patients suffering from cardiac ailments as cardiac interventions usually used to cost in lacs which are now done free of cost in hospitals and same is being done in Department of Cardiology SSH Jammu where thousands of complex cardiac interventions have been done free of cost under this scheme,” he said.
Others who were part of this camp included Dr Ravinder Rattanpal, Dr Dhaneshwer Kapoor and Dr Syed Rahella. Paramedics and Volunteers include Kamal Sharma, Ranjeet Singh ,Raghav Rajput , Maninder Singh, Harvinder Singh , Amandeep Singh and Akshay Kumar.
