RAJOURI, Aug 22: Public Peace and Development Foundation (A Non-Governmental Organization) celebrated National Senior Citizens Day at Dodason Bala in Rajouri district.
The programme was organized in consultation with the District Social Welfare Department. The aim of the programme was to acknowledge the contributions of senior citizens to the society.
During the programme the achievements of senior citizens were appreciated. The programme was organized near Jama Masjid Sideeq-e-Akbar Mohalla Qureshi, Dodason Bala. In this programme senior citizens were invited from the surrounding villages and more than 45 such people participated in the programme.
While speaking on the occasion Farooq Ahmed, a prominent social activist briefed the audience about the organization and the relevance of celebrating National Senior Citizens day.
Muzaffar Khawaja, chief functionary of the NGO while addressing the gathering educated the people about the Atal Vayo Abudya Yojna, formerly National Action Plan for Senior Citizens (NAPSrC). He disclosed that a Centrally sponsored Old Age Home Project has been sanctioned in favour of Public Peace and Development Foundation which will be setup in District headquarters Rajouri shortly.
He stressed upon the social activist, PRI members and voluntary organizations to identify and recommend the destitute senior citizens for the admission in this home in Rajouri.
