Students protest over shortage of basic infrastructure, block road

KATHUA, Aug 25: Facing the shortage of basic infrastructure, the students of Government Higher Secondary School Basantpur held protest and blocked the Kathua-Billawar road for half an hour.
The student carrying school bags sat on protest dharna in the middle of road infront of school today morning. Due to protest, the vehicular movement on the road also got stranded.
The students were supported by numbers of villagers and Panchyat members. The protestors raised protest against the concerned authorities for ignoring the Government school having poor infrastructure.

The protestors said that there are 350 students including the girls who are studying in Government Higher Secondary School Basantpur, but there are no basic facilities including staff and proper sitting arrangements. There are six room against twelve classes due to which students have to study under open sky, they added.
The students said that only Army is helping them in education by providing infrastructure under Operation Sadhbhavna.
“On the one side Government is asking the people to send their wards to Government school for studying and on the other hand is not providing proper infrastructure and other basic facilities”, the students alleged.
The Panchayat members Pinki Devi and Devender Singh also criticized the attitude of Education Department.
They said that the schools in the rural areas are facing problems due to poor infrastructure.
Later, Chief Education Officer also visited the spot and assured the protesting students of redressing their issues in the shortest possible time.
On the assurance, the students dispersed and vehicular movement was restored on the road.
