JAMMU, Aug 25: Javid Ahmad Rather and Mohd Jabir, Government teachers from North Kashmir’s Baramulla and Kargil in Ladakh, respectively, are among the 46 educators who will receive national awards on Teachers Day.
President of India, Droupadi Murmu, will confer National Awards to the selected 46 Teachers on the occasion of Teachers Day on September 5 at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.
Javid Ahmed is presently Principal of Government Boys Higher secondary School, Baramulla in north Kashmir while Mohd Jabir is teacher at Government Middle School, Karith, district Kargil in Ladakh.
Interestingly, this was consecutively for the second time that Middle School Karith has succeeded in getting recognition at national level for the achievement.
“Even if I don’t work for awards, it will boost my self-esteem and show that my work is appreciated. I am not sure why I am being awarded, but I think they could have valued my educational service. I consider it my job to educate these children because the Government pays me to do so,” Javid told the Excelsior.
He said there are many distractions available for the students today, so the teachers must make an extra effort. “Earlier there were fewer distractions, so the teachers today must work extremely hard,” he remarked.
He recommended that teachers cultivate a sense of ownership and belonging. He emphasized that teachers need to guide the students and treat them like their own.
The teachers for the award were chosen by the Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education, after a rigorous, open, and online three-stage selection process.
According to the Ministry of Education, the goal of the National Awards to Teachers is to recognize the unique contributions made by teachers in the nation building and to pay tribute to those educators who, through their dedication and hard work, have improved not only the standard of education in schools but also the lives of their students.
