People protest with dead body, block road

NOWSHERA, Sept 27: The villagers from Meenka area held strong protest demonstration with the dead body of a middle aged person and blocked road for nearly three hours this evening.
The villagers alleged that  50 year old Dev Raj, son of Sain Dass of Meenka was allegedly beaten up by two youth namely  Munna and Pappi of the same village yesterday over the issue of some money lending. The youth refused to pay back the money and they had tiff. Later, they beat up Dev Raj and he received injuries and complained severe pain in stomach.
He was removed to Sunderbani hospital where doctors provided him treatment. As his condition deteriorated, he was referred to Jammu but he died on the way. The villagers alleged that  man died of beating by the youth and police did not take cognizance of the matter. The man belonged to poor family  and there was no earning hand.
Upon this, the members of  this poor family supported by many villagers sat on the road along with dead body at around 6 pm and started protest dharna. The traffic remained disrupted for more than three hours.
Later,  SDPO and SDM intervened and on their assurance they lifted dharna.  A large number of vehicles remained stranded on this busy highway. The police said that a case will be registered for investigation. The administration also assured support  to the family.
