BalSahityaPurskar and YuvaPurskarrespectively are the two literary awards bestowed annually by Sahitya Academy on young writers whose contribution of outstanding nature in any of the 24 Indian languages is thus duly recognised and acknowledged from among the other best contestants. BalSahitya Awards carry their own peculiar significance in that the literature for children , for their interest and developing creativity must not only be promoted but encouraged as well variedly. It is this tender age period of children when they need to exert more on constructive creativity and developing keen interest in different hues of literary faculties.
Having said that, in this connection, two litterateurs from Jammu have been selected for the twin awards for their short stories in Dogri literature .In the same way, two writers from Kashmir have been selected for the two awards for their contribution in Kashmiri literature. In other words , four awards -two each from the said awards have been bagged by four litterateurs of the UT of Jammu and Kashmir. Our felicitations to the awardees with expectations that more would be added into the rich legacy of the Dogri and Kashmiri literature while the attempts should be focussed on popularising the two languages spoken in Jammu and Kashmir but not written or used as much since preference is given to the English language only. Unless such literary works are extensively read and enjoyed , we fear such books will be adoring only our cupboards of our study (rooms).
