Sumo plunges into Chenab; one killed, another missing

BHADERWAH, Sept 27: One person was killed, while another went missing when the Tata Sumo, they were traveling in, skidded off the road and plunged into river Chenab at Kharara, near Prem Nagar, here this morning.
The ill-fated vehicle bearing registration number JK17-0873 was on its way from Jammu to Paddar, when the driver of the vehicle failed to negotiate a sharp curve, resulting the vehicle plunging into river Chenab, at Kharara near Prem Nagar.
On getting information, police party led by SI Sanjay Manhas and locals rushed to the spot and started rescue operation. Out of two occupants, body of Chuni Lal, son of Nek Chand of Legri, Paddar was recovered, while the body of Gian Chand, son of Mangat Ram of Kantara, Thatri,  drowned in river Chenab.
The body of the deceased was handed over to family members for last rites after completion of legal formalities, while divers were pressed into service to fish out the body of the Gian Chand.
A case has been registered and investigation started.
The vehicle was retrieved from the river Chenab by the Army, but the body of Gian Chand could not be fished out.
