JAMMU, Aug 27: Owners and workers of JCB, Dumper, Tipper, Tractors and Trolley of Nagrota today urged the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and Civil administration to initiate corrective action against the Ban Toll Plaza management for charging excessive rates without any advance notice.
Addressing the press conference, the Union leader Ch Bashir Ahmad Kohli said, “The National Highway was built on our lands wherein the local population supported the NHAI hoping that the life will be easier for us in terms of transportation and doing business to earn livelihood but due to arbitrary charging of toll making the locals life hell.”
“The Toll Plaza has been charging an excess fee while passing through and hence adding it to the list of most expensive Toll Plazas in Northern India as of today. They revise the tariff rates as per their will and wish and as and when they like to do so,” Ch Bashir said, adding that they increased the rates arbitrarily and now demanded 10 times higher Toll from the existing tariff.
On demanding the tariff list, they were unable to produce it and if anyone is unable to pay such a high price, they send their bouncers to deal and force them to charge the increased toll tax, said Bashir.
He further said the Toll Plaza at Sarore provides free pass and a dedicated lane to all vehicles with Registration numbers: JK21 and that they can understand the pain of the local commuters then why the local administration does not understand the pain of the locals who reside nearby the Toll Plaza of Ban, he asserted.
In this regard, they submitted a memorandum to NHAI and Deputy Commissioner Jammu and other concerned authorities to redress the demands earlier, he said.
