JAMMU, Aug 27: Contingent paid workers and cooks of Education Department today held protest demonstration here demanding enhancement of their wages.
A large number of cooks of Education Department and other contingent paid workers assembled near Press Club here and held protest demonstration. They were demanding regularization of their services and also enhancement of their wages as per Minimum Wages Act in the Union Government and other UTs.
They pointed out that they have been working for the last more than 10 years but their wages were not hiked. Even they are not being provided regular wages. The people of this class are mainly from poor families but the Government has not enhanced their wages since long.
Later, they submitted a memorandum to the government, seeking regular payment of their wages.
Several members including Javed Ahmed, Santosh Devi, Shakeela Begum, Ritu Devi, Kahjoor Singh and others spoke on the occasion.
