SRINAGAR, Aug 28: Chairman of J&K People’s Democratic Front (JKPDF) and former Minister Hakeem Muhammad Yaseen has expressed serious concern over the highly burgeoning unemployment rate in Jammu and Kashmir.
“The Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy has pegged the unemployment rate in Jammu and Kashmir region at 25 percent in March this year which is the second highest in the country,” he said while blasting tall claims of the Government about providing thousands of job opportunities to the unemployed youth in the region.
Speaking at meeting of the party workers on Saturday, Hakeem Yaseen said that available statistical data about unemployment in J&K was quite contradictory to the Government’s tall claims. He said the ever increasing unemployment rate was a cause of serious concern and such a grim situation was never seen before.
Hakeem Yaseen said that the Government claims about heavy investment from Oversees and opening up new job opportunities was only a hoaxpass limited only to information press notes just to divert attention of the people from the failures of Government on all fronts, including socio political and developmental sides .
PDF Chairman observed that despite being unable to provide employment to unemployed youth, Government was on a spree to terminate the in service employees in various departments on one pretext or the other, without providing them any opportunity to clear their position and defend themselves. He said there was extreme arrogance and cruelty in the bureaucratic hierarchy where people feel themselves totally helpless and hopeless.
PDF leader said that instead of creating employment opportunities, the Government has started outsourcing and leasing out Government Jobs in various departments which has struck last nail on the transparency and accountability in the overall recruitment process . He said the plight of contractual employees, daily wagers, Anganwadi workers and ASHAs was most miserable and the Government was acting as mute spectator to redress their genuine grievances.
Hakeem Yaseen also castigated for leaving many ambitious developmental projects languishing from decades in Khan Sahib constituency, which include construction of two mini hydel power projects at nalla Shaliganga and nalla Sukhnag, construction of Grid station at Khan Sahib and construction of Gulmarg – Tossamaidan and Yusmarg tourist circuit.
