People protest for damage to houses, closure of road

RAJOURI, Aug 28: The people held a protest as several houses were damaged after land slide and absence of protection work by road construction agency in Patrara area of Rajouri.
Reports said due to land slide at least four houses were damaged. The protest was led by Molana Shafiq Ahmed. He said that road work from Patrara -Ghambir-Sora to Shahdara Sharief under ERA was started many years ago. The work was allotted to the contractor but till date work has not been completed. The estimated cost of the road work is Rs 38 crore and it is still under construction from last 10 years.
Today at Sora four residential houses of Mumtaz Ahmed , Mohd Yousuf, Mohd Riyaz and Mohd Qayoom were effected badly due to land sliding. There was no protection raised by the ERA agency.
SDM Thannamandi Vikas Dhar and Tehsildar Thannamandi Sahil Ali Shah reached the spot and issued strict instructions to the construction company to construct protection wall at all vulnerable places and also assured people that all kind of genuine help will be provided from administration. After assurance from Administration people lifted the protest dharna.
Another report said that due to land slide the road connectivity from Teryath to Narla Bambal, Kotcharwal and adjoining villages has been snapped. The road was closed due to land slide near Mathyani for the last five days. This is causing much inconvenience to general public of the area especially students. The locals of the area have urged the District administration Rajouri to take cognizance of the matter ensure opening of this road.
