MENDHAR, Aug 29: Rich tribute were paid to Martyr ASI Babu Ram (Ashoka Chakra) on his 2nd death anniversary at Shaheed Babu Ram Chowk in Tehsil Mendhar of Poonch district on Monday.
The family members and locals of Mendhar Sub Division along with officers from Police, Army and Civil Administration paid floral tribute to ASI Babu Ram at Shaheed Babu Ram Chowk Darana village in Tehsil Mendhar.
Meanwhile, family of Martyr ASI Babu Rram, Reena Devi (Wife), Manik Sharma (Son) and other members also paid rich tribute to martyr on his death anniversary.
It may be recalled that ASI Babu Ram killed three terrorists at Pantha Chowk, Srinagar on August 29, during encounter.
The brave heart, during his service in the anti-insurgency group, remained part of 14 encounters in which 28 terrorists of different terror outfits were gunned down, the officials said, adding that for outstanding contribution and valour, he has been decorated with Ashok Chakra, the country’s highest peacetime gallantry award, posthumously.
Poonch Police organized a function on his second death anniversary, wherein hundreds of people paid tribute to the martyr.
Senior Superintendent of Police Poonch Rohit Baskotra, ASP 6th Battalion Armed Police Farooq Khan, SDPO Mendhar Sheezan Bhat, Army officer 37 Rastriya Raifles, SHO Mendhar Nayaz Ahmed , former VC and president BADC Dr Shazad Ahmed Malik, Sanatan Dharm Shaba president Balram Sharma and others were present on the occasion.
Locals of Mendhar urged the Government of India as well as Jammu and Kashmir UT Government to fulfill their promises of making Shaheed Babu Ram Chowk, a statue on the name of martyr Babu Ram.
