KARGIL, Sept 28: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) under National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) organized a legal awareness programme on “Alternate Dispute Resolution (ADR) Methods”, in which students and faculty members of Government Degree College participated.
The programme was organized under the chairmanship of Tahir Khurshid Raina, Principal, District and Sessions Judge, Chairman, DLSA.
While speaking, Raina emphasized on the participants that the hitherto concept of lingering on of the disputes for years together has undergone a change and now new concept of resolution of disputes has been introduced in the legal system. He said that by virtue of these alternative modes of settlement, the dispute can be resolved in a short span of time. He added that it can be possible only when general public will be well aware of this important break through in our legal system.
He explained the three modes of settlement of civil proceedings which are “Arbitration”, “Conciliation” and “Mediation”. He also acquainted the participants about the concept of Lok Adalat and its remarkable results, whereby large number of disputes have got settled in a record time and litigants also felt satisfied.
Raina also dealt with the “Plea Bargaining” as an alternate mode of dispute resolution in the field of criminal justice system.
Sunil Sangra, CJM Kargil, Spalzes Angmo, Munsiff, JMIC Sanoo, SSP Kargil Surjit Kumar, President Bar Association Ghulam Murtaza, Principal Government Degree College Amina Qari, Sr PO Nawang Nurboo, etc participated in the programme.
The programme was conducted by Public Prosecutor of the Court Kachoo Manzoor Ali Khan.
