JAMMU, Sept 28:  While cautioning the Sikh Sangat against the designs of  the some vested interests, Sikh United Front (J&K) has demanded early  and smooth conduct of Gurdawara elections as per the Act in the State.
Addressing a joint press conference here today, Avtar Singh Khalsa general secretary of the Front, Mohinder Singh and other leaders alleged that certain persons are filing cases in the courts to stop the much awaited electoral process. Some of them are the same who had been managing the affairs of District Gurdawara Parbandhak Committee Jammu for the last many years. These people for their vested interests, are not in the favour of  Gurdawara elections. Some of them were allegedly facing charges for misusing Gurdawara funds.
They further alleged that some of these members are  afraid of facing the voters as they have failed to work according to the J&K Sikh Gurdawara and Religious Endowment Act 1973. These people including a former president of the DGPC have already dragged members in false court cases just to delay the process of elections which the State Government has started. Their term of 5 years has already expired but they are not ready to leave.
They urged upon the Government to hold early Gurdawara elections in the State in the larger interest of the Sikh community in the State. They also warned the Sikh Sangat to understand the designs of such vested interests and oppose any such move to derail the elections.
Several Sikh leaders including Paramjit Singh, Gajan Singh, Kulwant Singh, Ramneek Singh Bijral, Manmohan Singh and others were present.
