Deptt of Sanskrit in JU organises Maharishi Vedvyas Jayanti

JAMMU, Sept 2: Maharishi Ved Vyas Jayanti was organized by the Department of Sanskrit, University of Jammu under the theme of Sanskrit Mahakavi Jayanti, here today.
The program started with the Saraswati Vandana and at the very outset Prof Sushma Devi, Head, Department of Sanskrit presented a welcome address.
In the program, a Shloka recitation competition from Mahabharata was organized in which 30 participants from various Language Departments of the University and from the Sanskrit Departments of various colleges took part.
Professor Sucheta Pathania, Dean Faculty of Arts, JU, graced the function as chief guest and while addressing the gathering, she highlighted the role of Sanskrit languages in development of the society.
Professor Shivdev Singh Manhas, Ex HoD, Department of Dogri and Dean, Faculty of Arts, was present in the function as Saraswat Atithi.
Professor Rajni Bala, Head, Department of Hindi, was present in the function in the capacity of Vishisht Atithi and spoke about the importance of lessons of Mahabharat in present era.
Dr Ved Prakash Raina and Ashish Sharma were present in the capacity of Judges, Faculty members of the Department such as Dr Vidyadhar Singh, Dr Pratibha, Dr Satyapriya, Dr Priyanka Arya, Contractual faculty Members such as Dr Umesh, Dr Prince and Dr Kamni Sharma were present in the function.
In the competition, 1st prize was bagged by Shivani Sharma from PG Department of Sanskrit, Jammu University. Second prize was secured by Neeraj Singh from Govt MAM College, Jammu and 3rd prize was bagged by Anil Kumar from PG Department of Sanskrit, Jammu University. Consolation prize was given to Nikita Sharma and Gaurav Sharma.
