7 kg heroin seized, smuggler couple arrested

UDHAMPUR, Sept 2: In a major success, Udhampur Police today seized seven kilograms of heroin worth crores of rupees, which was being smuggled by couple from Punjab.
According to ADGP Jammu Zone, Mukesh Singh, the accused couple was smuggling the heroin in an Innova car, which was intercepted by a Police party at Jakhani Chowk, this evening.
The couple, identified as Lovepreet Singh, son of Karnail Singh of Ram Tirth Road, Amritsar (Punjab) and his wife Mandeep Kaur, was immediately taken into custody and the recovered heroin was seized.
A case under relevant sections of law has been registered in this connection in Police Station Udhampur and investigation was going on the basis of disclosures made by the arrested couple.
This is the biggest ever haul of narcotics in the recent past coinciding with the statement of Director General of J&K Police Dilbag Singh, who told media persons at Kupwara in Kashmir today that there was an increase in narcotics smuggling cases and Pakistan was backing the same for funding militancy in Jammu and Kashmir.
