*18 senior leaders adopt joint resolution

JAMMU, Sept 3: The Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA), Ladakh Gonpa Association (LGA) and Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) met in Kargil today and adopted a joint resolution resolving the issue of construction of a Gonpa at the earliest in Kargil.
The resolution was jointly signed by 18 senior leaders of Leh and Kargil including religious as well as political.
As per the resolution released to the media at a press conference addressed jointly by the leaders of Leh and Kargil in Kargil town this morning, the land allotted in favour of Ladakh Buddhist Association in terms of the Jammu and Kashmir Government order of 1969 would be honoured by all stakeholders.
“The land in question would be utilized solely for the purpose as mentioned in that Government order as the land exists on this day on the ground,” the resolution said.
It was agreed by all the parties that a land measuring two kanals shall be allotted at Kurbathang through Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Kargil in favour of Ladakh Buddhist Association exclusively for the construction of Gonpa at the earliest so that LBA could start construction as early as possible.
“All the parties also agreed to work together in order to maintain and promote communal harmony in Ladakh. It was also decided by both the communities to care and respect the religious sentiments of each other to set an example of universal brotherhood globally,” the resolution said.
Today’s meeting between Ladakh Buddhist Association, Ladakh Gonpa Association and Kargil Democratic Alliance was culmination of two earlier meetings on the issue in which a solution acceptable to all the stakeholders, could not be achieved.
