Balwant Thakur introduces innovative children theatre in Mauritius

PORT LOUIS, Sept 4: Director Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture (IGCIC), High Commission of India, Mauritius, Balwant Thakur introduced innovative children’s theatre in Mauritius in a massive way. Supported by the Ministry of Arts and Cultural Heritage, Government of Republic of Mauritius, this initiative of Balwant Thakur is aimed at introducing children theatre in entire Mauritius.
Under this project 20 Directors of Mauritius are being trained in a production oriented workshop with children under the direction of Balwant Thakur.
These Directors after completion of their training will be allotted 20 different regions of Mauritius and will be assigned to produce independent children productions.
This phase of work will culminate into a mega festival featuring 20 new children’s plays incorporating different themes and approaches.
In final phase of the project, each Director will be facilitated to stage 5 shows each of their productions in their respective vicinity thus taking the number of performances to 100. This project was inaugurated at IGCIC by Avinash Teeluch, Minister of Arts and Cultural Heritage, Government of Mauritius who assured all support to the initiative.
Experts here have a firm belief that this contribution of Balwant Thakur is going to turn into a theatre movement in Mauritius.
