PDP serves two adjournment motions in J&K Houses

SRINAGAR : Opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today served two adjournment motions in both Houses of the State to discuss recent killings of civilians in the State and the alleged Army pay-off to leaders.

“We have served two motions in the Legislative Assembly and Council to discuss the recent expose made about the extra constitutional methods adopted in J&K reportedly since 1947 to subvert democratic system in the State,” PDP Chief spokesman Naeem Akhtar said here.

He said the party had served notice for special discussion on the subject.

“We draw the attention of this August House towards the matter of urgent public importance –  the situation that has risen in and outside State out of an expose in a national daily endorsed by (former Army Chief) General (Retd) V K Singh casting a shadow on our democratic institutions and political system since 1947,” the motion, copies of which were released to the media here, said.

“The party also filed an adjournment motion for discussion on the series of killings of innocent people in incidents at Gool, Kishtwar, Shopian and Markundal Bandipora, which have compounded sense of insecurity among masses,” the PDP spokesman said.

“…the killings have shaken the confidence of the people in rule of law and plunging the state into uncertainty which can be ignored only at the peril of remaining faith in the system,” the motion read, adding “we, therefore, seek adjournment of the business of the House for purpose of immediate discussion on the issue tomorrow”.

Akhtar said these notices have been submitted to the speaker of the Legislative Assembly and the chairman of the Legislative Council. (AGENCIES)
