AAP leader Harsh Dev protests against water crisis

JAMMU, Sept 7: Claiming collapse of Jal Shakti Department, a large number of people led by Harsh Dev Singh, former minister and AAP leader staged a protest demonstration outside Chief Engineer’s Office here today against drinking water crisis faced by the people particularly in rural areas.
The protestors raised slogans against Jal Shakti Department and BJP government for their failure to provide drinking water to the people even after 75 years of Independence.
They later submitted a memorandum to the Chief Engineer seeking immediate restoration of defunct water supply schemes and provision of new connections to uncovered households as per ‘Har Ghar Nal’ scheme.
Pointing towards the acute shortage of water in several villages of Udhampur, particularly those of Chenani Constituency, Harsh Dev said that people of several villages and even towns are forced to collect rain water in pots to quench their thirst.
He mentioned that the worst affected villages as Mada, Champeri, Drounthal, Kalori, Matlowa, Chulyar, Sarsoo, Barmeen, Larh, Nala Ghorran, Sulghar, Mani, Satyalta, Dhandhal etc.
He said that the government was constantly harping on launch of ‘Jal Jeevan Mission’ since 2017 but not a single WSS scheme had been launched in Udhampur till date.
Rajesh Padgotra, Gagan Pratap Singh, Raj Mohd Salaria, Karan Attri, Shankaar Singh Sanju and others were also present in the protest.
