NEW DELHI, June 12:
The election for the President of India will be held on July 19, the Election Commission announced here this evening.
Votes will be counted, if needed, on July 22, said Chief Election Commissioner V Sampath.
The term of office of President Pratibha Devisingh Patil will come to an end on July 24.
The notification for the elections will be issued on June 16 and last date of filing nominations is June 30.
Nominations will be scrutinised on July 2 and the last date for the withdrawal of candidature is July 4.
The Secretary General to the Rajya Sabha Dr V K Agnihotri has been appointed as the Returning Officer for the election.
The President is elected by the members of the Electoral College consisting of elected members of both Houses of Parliament and elected members of the Legislative Assemblies of all States, including National Capital Territory of Delhi and the Union Territory of Puducherry. (UNI)
