* Zero infiltration has jolted ultras

JAMMU, June 12: Director General of Police (DGP) K Rajendra today held a high level review of security arrangements for Amarnath Yatra and militancy situation across Jammu region with top brass of police and para-military forces.
In first review of security scenario in Jammu region after assuming charges as the State police chief, Mr Rajendra called upon the officials of police and para-military forces to ensure that peace was maintained all across the region during Amarnath Yatra period from June 25 to August 2.
Asserting that militancy was on wane in Jammu region, the State police chief asserted that Jammu and Kashmir should be sold as a “tourist destination’’ so that more and more people come to the State leading to further normalcy.
Apprising the police officials that today was 139th Raising Day of JKP, which had come into existence on June 12, 1873, Mr Rajendra lauded the efforts of security forces for zero infiltration this year on the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB).
“A number of infiltration attempts have been made on both LoC and IB in Jammu region but all of them have been successfully foiled by the security forces. This has delivered a major setback to few remaining militants, who were finding it hard to survive in the absence of fresh arrival of militants from across the border and lack of arms and ammunition’’, he said.
Mr Rajendra called upon police and para-military personnel to start making arrangements for peaceful Amarnath Yatra well in advance. He said deployment of police and para-military forces on Jammu-Lakhanpur and Jammu-Srinagar National Highways, Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas and all other places covered and used by the yatris, should start from June 15 so that deployment was complete when first batch of yatris would leave Jammu on June 24.
He directed police and para-military personnel to ensure that fool-proof security arrangements were made for Amarnath yatris all across the State.
The DGP also reviewed internal security arrangements in Jammu region. He said Jammu, Udhampur, Reasi, Samba, Kathua and Doda districts were completely free of militancy while few militants were still operating in twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch, Kishtwar and Ramban.
He said the left out militants were frustrated and were finding it very difficult to survive in the absence of any support by the local people. The plugging of all infiltration routes on LoC and IB in Jammu region has further given a jolt to the militants, he added.
Mr Rajendra called upon the police to continue strong vigil against the militants so that they didn’t dare to raise their head again.
