Addressing a press conference here today, Namrata Sharma said that J&K is a power rich state having very high potential of hydel power generation but even after having such a rich potential the power scenario in the UT is unsatisfactory and things are moving on such scenario that one can fear power crisis in J&K in time to come.
Quoting some media reports, she said that power outstanding dues in J&K have touched 14,164 crore rupees which is one of the highest figure and the Government has badly failed to check AT&C losses, power thefts and other factors which are draining Government exchequer.
She added that in last couple of years, BJP Government in center and LG Administration in J&K has made tall claims of big reforms in the power sector even after which AT&C losses and power theft is unchecked which clearly established that the funds that have been sanctioned for electricity system upgradation have either not been utilized and could have be misappropriated or there is severe mismanagement.
“We have no hesitation to say that BJP and LG Administration has now failed J&K on electricity front and high potential of electricity generation here has been misused or not utilized,” Namrata said and demanded LG Administration to put before public the exact outstanding dues of power sector and steps being taken by the Government to solve the problem.
