Police foils bovine smuggling bid, rescues 25 animals

KATHUA, Sept 12: Tightening the noose on bovine smugglers within the district, Kathua police under the overall supervision of SSP, R C Kotwal, today rescued 25 bovines within the district and seized two vehicles involved.
Police said a team of Police Station (PS) Lakhanpur led by Inspector, Vijay Kotwal SHO, Lakhanpur under the supervision of DySP, DAR, Kathua, Sukhdev Singh during naka checking duty near Maggar Khad area noticed the movement of one suspicious truck bearing Registration Number JK02BT-6357 which was being driven by an unknown person who was enrouted from Punjab towards NHW Hatli Morh via MaggarKhad area. He was signaled to stop for checking. During checking of the vehicle, 12 bovines were found loaded in the vehicle mercilessly which were rescued and the vehicle was seized on spot.
An instant case has been registered at PS Lakhanpur vide FIR No. 80/2022 U/S 188/IPC, 11/PCA Act while further investigation into this matter has been set into motion.
While in another instance the police team of PS Hiranagar was led by Inspector, Sunil Kumar SHO, PS Hiranagar under the supervision of SDPO Border, Pankaj Soodan during the naka checking duty near Londi Morh it noticed one suspicious truck bearing Registration Number JK02AP/8887 enrouted from Kathua side towards Jammu. It was signaled to stop for checking. Sensing danger driver of the vehicle managed to fled away from the spot while leaving behind the vehicle abandoned.
On thorough checking the police team was able to found 13 number of Bovine animals including 11 cows and two Oxen who were brutally tied with ropes. All the 13 bovines were rescued and one vehicle was seized. A case vide FIR No. 127/2022 U/S 188/IPC, 11 PCA Act has been registered at PS Hiranagar and further investigation is underway.
Thus overall 25 Bovines( 13 cows and 12 oxen) were rescued and two vehicles were seized as well.
