JAMMU, Oct 2: Rich tributes were paid to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversaries.
Speaker, Legislative Assembly, Mubarak Gul today paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on his 144th birth anniversary at a function organized by Rural Development Society to commemorate the birth anniversary Gandhiji.
The Speaker recalled the contributions of Gandhi ji made for achieving freedom from the clutches of Britishers.
Member Parliament Jammu-Poonch constituency, Madan Lal Sharma while addressing a gathering at Toph Sherkhania on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti celebration said that Gandhi’s philosophy and teachings are relevant to modern age and in any part of the world. Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Sham Lal Sharma also attended the function and paid rich tributes to the Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri. Kuldeep Raj Verma, Vice chairman OBC, Pawan Shastri, DS Langey, JN Koul, JN Massar, Manmohan Singh, Uttam Chib, Babu Singh, Kamal Pradhan and many more were also present.
Mahatma Gandhi’s teachings should be imbibed by the society to foil the designs of divisive forces and to unite and integrate the State and the country in one strong entity, Minister of State for Health, Shabir Ahmad Khan said today.
Addressing at a function organized by Gandhian Global Family, Kashmir Chapter to celebrate the 144 birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi at S P College, Srinagar, Khan said the teachings of Gandhiji are more relevant in the present times as the world battles the forces of violence and extremism.

Minister for Housing, Horticulture and Culture, Raman Bhalla, today paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversary at functions held at Satwari Chowk and Bahu Fort Mini Stadium. Chief Education Officer, Tarsem Lal Bhagat, besides large number of students from Government and private educational institutions of Gandhi Nagar and citizens also paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri. Students recited bhajans and patriotic songs.
In his address, Bhalla said that Gandhi ji always spread the message of love and non-violence and emerged as one of the greatest leaders in the history of mankind.
Former Union Minister, Member Parliament (MP) and president, J&K Pradesh Congress Committee Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz while paying rich tributes to Mahatma Gandhi described him Mahatma Gandhi as an apostle of peace and staunch believer of non-violence whose sacrifices and teachings are indelibly on the global conscience. Prof Soz also paid tributes to Lal Bahadur Shastri on his birth anniversary.
Shantmanu, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu along with Wing Commander MM Joshi, senior advisor GGF, KK Gandotra, general secretary GGF paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversaries in a function orgainsed by Gandhi Global Family at Dewan-e-Aam, Mubarak Mandi. The program started with singing of bhajans by students of Lawrence Public School and Shangrila School, followed by all faith prayer and speeches. Prof Bhim Singh, Chief patron of National Panthers Party (NPP) and Member of National Integration Council, today joined thousands of farmers at Vijay Ghat, Memorial site of Lal Bahadur Shastri, to pay tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversary. Prof Singh said that the real tributes to Gandhi Ji and Shastri Ji will be to provide justice to farmers and free them of exploitation and hunger.

North Polytechnic, Purkhoo Camp, Domana, celebrated birthday anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, in which management, faculty members and students of all departments participated. KR Sharma, Principal North Polytechnic threw light on the life and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi. A debate on “Relevance of Gandhian Philosophy in Present Scenario” was also held in which students participated actively. Ajay Singh Jamwal, Dinesh Gupta, Gurbachan Singh, HC Vaid, Sonika Koul, Vijay Singh, Nitin Sharma, Daljit Kour and Pooja Sharma were also present.
NSS units of GGM Science College under the supervision of Dr Rajinder Singh NSS Programme Officer organized a peace rally to celebrate the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. A large number of students participated in the rally, which was flagged off by Dr Satinder Singh, Nodal Principal, Jammu Division Colleges. The rally passed through Canal Road, Bakshi Nagar, Medical College and BC Road and culminated at GGM Science College. Gandhi Memorial College of Education, Raipur Bantalab celebrated Gandhi Jayanti. A debate on “Gandhian philosophy and its impact on youth” was organized, in which students from different schools participated and expressed their views. Anil Dhar, president, HESK, AK Raina, general secretary, Sanjay Dhar, Aswani Kumar, Sunil Ticku and BL Zutshi, executive body members, HESK and Prof GL Koul, Principal GMCEJ were also present.

SP Smart Senior Secondary School, Sarore, Bari Brahmana celebrated birth anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri. Ex State Project Director RS Samyal and VK Nanda were the guests, while Chairman of the institution Shivang Satya Gupta, Prithvi Raj Gupta, Administrator, faculty members and students were also present. A debate competition was also organized, in which Simran Rana and Rohini Pathania claimed first and second positions respectively, whereas Jagjeet Kour and Pratibha shared third position.
Dewan Badrinath Vidya Mandir (10+2) Amarvilla Canal Road celebrated birth anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri. Rich tributes were paid to the Father of Nation on the occasion and also to the soldiers and civilians, who were killed in the recent militant attack in Hiranagar and Samba. The students highlighted the achievements of the Father of Nation and impressed upon the youth to follow his philosophy. Principal delivered a key not lecture on the occasion. Happy Model Higher Secondary Udhampur celebrated Gandhi Jayanti. A rally of student was organized, which started from school at Shiv Nagar and after passing through various areas conclude in the school premises. Dr KC Sharma and Advocate Swetentra Dev Kotwal also participated in the rally. A cultural program, symposium and skits on communal harmony were organized under the directions of School Director Vikram Gulahti. Documentary films of National Federation for communal Harmony New Delhi were also shown to the students and guests.
Jammu Public Higher Secondary School, Sainik Colony celebrated Gandhi Jayanti, in which staff members and students participated actively. Santosh Sharma, Principal highlighted the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi.
Sai Shyam Public School, Ghou-Manhasan organized painting competition on the eve of Gandhi Jayanti, in which students participated actively. Sushma Sharma, Principal Government Higher Secondary School, Ghou-Manhasan was the chief guest, while CL Tickoo, Chairman Sai Shyam Educational Society, Dr Usha Tickoo, Principal Sai Shyam College of Education, Sarojni Saraf, Principal of the school, Sheetal Razdan and Leenu Channa were also present. Students presented cultural programme, followed by speeches. In the painting competition, Raman, Rahul Chowdhary and Manish emerged winners in senior category, whereas Gautam Singh, Natasha and Bhoomi in junior category. The consolation prizes were awarded to Khushi and Tamana.
Green Belt Public School, Chandal, Bani celebrated birth anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri, in which students from various schools participated. The speakers including students in their speeches threw light on the life and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi.
Government High School, Pull Tawi, Zone Gandhi Nagar celebrated birth anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri, in which faculty members and students participated actively. Headmistress Neelam Gupta threw light on the life and teachings of Gandhi and Shastri.
Government Middle School, Dhanwan and Government Middle School, Jeeri zone Pouni, district Reasi celebrated Gandhi Jayanti by organising a symposium on “Role of Mahatma Gandhi in Nation Building”, in which strudents participatyed actively. In GMS Dhanwan, Sunita, Headmistress of stressed upon the students to follow the principles of Mahatma Gandhi while in GMS Jerri students were addressed by Harvinder Kumar, HM. Participants were given prizes by the respective school managements. The events were supervised by the Cluster Resource Person under the directions of Harish Kumar Dubey, Zonal Education Officer, Pouni.
Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated by the management and staff of Khadi Gram Mandal, Jammu. The function started by garlanding the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi. Subash Chander, Secretary, Suman, Akshie Verma and Ashwani Kumar threw light on the life and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi.
Gandhi Bhawan Samiti and Gandhi Sewa Sadan celebrated Gandhi Jayanti. On the occasion, ID Soni was the chief guest, whereas Rajinder Kakar was guest of honour and Ved Ghai, Chairperson, Gandhi Sewa Sadan presided over the function. Students of DBN School presented group song and patriotic songs. Academy of Marital Arts also demonstrated skills of self defence.
State Chairman of J&K Human Rights watch (JKHRW) BL Kapoor while addressing a gathering on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi at State head quarter (JKHRW) said that the real tribute to Mahatma Gandhi is to take care of our motherland and everybody should have the spirit of patriotism sympathy and give heed towards national integrity.
Sky High India Social Organisation also celebrated the birth anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri. Statue of both the great personalities were garlanded by mammoth gathering including members of the organization, social workers and general public. Aman Kalsotra, Director of the Organization threw light on the life of both leaders.
Bhartiya Lok Sangeet Kala Sansthan paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri. KL Verma, disciple of Santoor Mastro Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma was the chief guest and VK Magora, Former Regional Director of Directorate of Field Publicity was the guest of honour, who while speaking threw light on the life and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri. Chairman, BLSK ML Dogra, renowned Artistes Usha Handoo, Hem Raj, KK.Joshi, Rajni Pummy, Archana, Neelam Gandotra, Raju Bajgal, Kuldeep, Gauri Lal, Shiv Kumar, Kamli, MC Kotwal were also present.
To observe 144th birth anniversary of Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi, Saryara Biradri Welfare Committee (SBWC) organized a cleanliness drive at Ward No. 47, Bahu Fort. Members of SBWC along with women and children participated in the drive. The entire clean drive event was coordinated by Jagdev Raj Daloutra, president SBWC and assisted by Harbans Lal Chalotra.
The birth anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bhahadur Shastri were celebrated by Shakti Punj, Hiranagar. Acting president Udhay Singh and general secretary Lukhinder Singh said that today in the era of violence which is created by few anti social elements the principle of truth and non-violence advocated by the Father of Nation is more applicable.
On the eve of Gandhi Jayanti, Member of All J&K Movement for Peace and Justice Kuldep Kumar Rao in a statement cautioned the people not to get misled by the degraded politics of divide and rule, regionalism, communalism and corrupt practices.
All J&K Scheduled Castes Welfare Association celebrated Gandhi Jayanti. The speakers in their speeches threw light on the life and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi. The programme was attended by RL Bharti, president, Om Raj Bhall, general secretary, Saran Dass, joint secretary and other members of the association.
On the eve of Gandhi Jayanti, a blood donation camp was organized by Lions Club Udhampur Aastha at District Hospital Udhampur with the help of Medical Superintendent Dr Chander Parkash, Dr Narinder Magotra and hospital staff. Dhwani Sharma, Umesh Mahajan, Arvind Gupta, Rakesh Gupta, Abhinav Gupta, Upkar Singh and Vinod Gupta donated blood.

Gandhi Global Family, Udhampur celebrated 144th birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi under the leadership of Sandeep Sail at Adarsh Colony. A large number of social activists, politicians, men and women were present in the function. Jammu and Kashmir Rural Development Coordinate Society celebrated birth anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri. Director Adil Khan along with others members of the society garlanded the portraits of Gandhi and Shastri.
To commemorate Gandhi Jayanti, a Gram Sabha was held in Panchayat Amala of block Barnoti, district Kathua. BDO Barnoti Sukriti Sharma, Inspector Panchayats Ram Dayal, Sarpanch Jagdish Singh Jasrotia alongwith all the Panchayat members, Gram Sabha members and officials of Rural Development Department were present on the occasion. The members of the Gram Sabha were informed about the approved shelf of the projects under MGNREGA and also the Annual Shelf of Projects for the year 2014-15 was formulated by the Panchayat. Besides this, the beneficiaries to be covered under Indra Awaas Yojana for the year 2014-15 were also identified in the Gram Sabha.
On the eve of birth anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri, National Secular Forum (NSF) started membership campaign. While speaking, NSF president Sukhdev Singh said that NSF will continue its membership drive till the entire major and minor institutions of the Jammu Province are covered. Ajaz Shah, Barket Ali, Javed, Akshey Sharma, Reshikesh Rana, besides many others were also present.
GS Accounts celebrated Gandhi Jayanti at his head office, Lower Moti Bazar, Parade, in which students participated actively. Chairman of GS Accounts, Girish Sharma threw light on the life and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi.
