University Research Fund stimulus for faculty to undertake quality research: JU VC

JAMMU, Sept 15: Laying impetus on the quality research activities to be taken by the University, Vice-Chancellor (VC), University of Jammu (JU) Prof Umesh Rai in consonance with the Research Policy of the University, has exhorted the faculty members of the University to take up active research by providing annual financial assistant to the selected faculty to the tune of Rs 2 lakh in the Faculty of Sciences, Rs 1.5 lakh in the Faculty of Social Sciences and Rs 1 lakh to other Faculties.
Prof Rai said that seed grant shall also be provided to Assistant Professors to the tune of Rs 1 lakh per faculty for teachers from Sciences/Life Sciences/Mathematical Sciences and Rs 50,000 per faculty to the teachers from streams other than Sciences. He said the amount shall be spent in one year and to avail this financial assistance, the applicant shall be required to submit his/her publications of at least last three years, his/her CV and the research proposal.
He said the Office of Dean, Research Studies shall soon be issuing a notification to invite proposals from the faculty in this regard. Pertinent to mention here that University has instituted a Special Fund by the name of “University of Jammu Research Fund” to enhance quality research and teaching in the University.
The VC said to promote the Skill Based Courses in the University, the Convener, University Entrepreneurship and Skill Development Centre (UESDC), shall also be organizing workshops regarding Storytelling in Museum: Dramatizing Heritage, 10-day Entrepreneurship Development Workshop and Mountaineering Skill Learning Workshop by the end of current year. He said all such path-breaking initiatives are being taken by the University with liberal financial assistance from its Directorate of Internal Quality Assurance (DIQA).
“Further, as an incentive to the teaching fraternity, the VC authorized financial support for various Academic activities, as per norms in vogue for the merged grant under the 12th plan,” he said, adding, this initiative will enable the University faculty to attend National as well as International Seminars/ Symposium/Workshops both within and outside the Country for the enhancement of their academic skills.
