POONCH, Sept 15: Lt Governor of J&K UT, Manoj Sinha visited Dera Nangali Sahib Poonch and paid his obeisance at the holy Sikh shrine the other day.
Head priest of the Dera, Mahant Manjit Singh along with his team accorded welcome to the Lt Governor and presented ‘Siropa’ to him besides the Divisional Commissioner Jammu Ramesh Kumar and ADG Mukesh Singh.
He apprised Sinha regarding the historical background of Dera Nangali Sahib and its services towards humanity as a whole.
Mahant Manjit Singh also submitted a memorandum comprising demands of people of Poonch in general and Sikh community in particular.
He demanded that the Durangli Nallah which flows near the Dera Nangali Sahib has already caused a great loss to this shrine, link road and ecological park due to flash floods and therefore, the protection work be ensured along the Nallah.
Mahant Manjit Singh further said that during partition in 1947 refugees in large number including Sikhs migrated and got settled in different areas. No doubt some seats have been kept reserved for PoK migrants but never any representation was given to these people. It was requested that at least 10 % quota of the PoK reserved seats may be given to the Sikh community.
He pointed out that as per Schedule of subjects declared by the Jammu and Kashmir Government, Hindi, English , Urdu , Dogri etc. were included but Punjabi subject was declared as optional. It is requested that Punjabi may also be included as subject. The members of DGPC Poonch led by its president Narinder Singh were also present on the occasion.
Lt Governor gave assurance to the head priest and others that their genuine issues will be addressed at the earliest.
