JAMMU, Oct 2: The 147th birth anniversary of Lala Hans Raj Mahajan was celebrated with great fervour and enthusiasm today.
In this connection a grand and impressive function was organised by Jammu Central Mahajan Sabha under the chairmanship of Vinod Gupta its president. The function started with garlanding of statue of Lala Hans Raj Mahajan and Dr L C Gupta.
A havan was also organized on the occasion at Lala Hans Raj Mahajan and pooja was also performed at Old Mahajan Sabha Office Sabzi Mandi, here.
The speakers paid rich tributes to Lala Hans Raj Mahajan and highlighted his role.
General secretary of Mahajan Sabha, Chander Mohan while recalling the role of Lala Ji termed him a great social reformer of the time. He said Lala Ji was the founder of Central Mahajan Sabha, Dogra Sadar Sabha and Akhil Bhartia Shiromoni Sabha.
He was a catalyst for social change and launched a crusade against evil customs like child marriage and Sati. Besides, he also launched a moment wearing Khadi, promoting brotherhood among various communities and for widow remarriage, he added.
He said Lala Ji was a man of principles who was instrumental in setting up Ved Mandir Ashram, Rajput Sabha etc.
Senior vice president of the Sabha, Dr Sudesh Gupta while throwing light on the role of Lala Ji said that not only people of Jammu but entire nation feels proud of him as Lala Ji throughout his life worked for welfare of all the communities irrespective of their caste, creed, religion and region.
