BJP demands statement from Antony on Keran infiltration

NEW DELHI, Oct 3: The BJP today demanded a statement from Defence Minister A K Antony on the reported infiltration in Keran sector of Jammu and Kashmir.
“The reports about continued fight for the past 10 days between the Indian Army and infiltrators supported by Pakistani regulars/Special Force in Keran Sector of Jammu and Kashmir is a matter of serious concern,” BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar told reporters.
He said Pakistan was indulging in all kinds of provocative activities along the border.
He said more ceasefire violations have occurred this year as compared to last eight years.
“There has been a sudden spurt in infiltration supported by Pakistani regulars and incidences of ambushing Indian patrolling troops recently. The Army’s engagement to prevent present infiltration bid in Keran sector started on September 23 and is still continuing,” Mr Javadekar said.
He said but the country has been briefed about it yesterday only.
“It means that when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was meeting his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharief in New York on September 29, the Indian Army was intensely engaged in thwarting this Pak-backed infiltration,” Mr Javadekar said.
He said talk and terrorism cannot go together.
“We can’t talk peace alongside terror strikes and infiltrations. The BJP demands that Defence Minister must make a statement and take the nation into confidence about the exact status on our borders,” the BJP spokesperson added. (AGENCIES)
