Work remains paralysed in Samba Hospitals, agitation spreads to Kathua district

SAMBA, Oct 3: Work remained paralyzed in all Government Hospitals in the district including the District Hospital Samba as doctors and paramedical staff continued their strike for the fourth day today in protest against the manhandling of CMO Samba and some staff members by frenzy mob on Monday.
However, the emergency services continue to function in all the hospitals.
The strike also spread to neighbouring Kathua district where doctors and para medical staff observed one and a half hour strike in all the hospitals of the district as a show of solidarity with their counterparts in Samba. The protesting doctors and para medical staff also staged demonstrations in the premises of their respective hospitals demanding that Government should ensure safety of doctors and other staff members in hospitals.
The doctors and paramedical staff of all the hospitals in Samba district staged the dharna demanding action against the people under law, named in the FIR for attacking the CMO Samba and other staff members. They also demanded installation of CRPF guard at the District Hospital Samba to provide security to doctors and paramedical staff there.
The protestors shouting slogans against the elements responsible for attacking CMO and other staff members warned that incase the action was not taken immediately they will also stop emergency services from functioning.
Meanwhile, a delegation of citizens from Samba township called on Deputy Commissioner, Samba today and sought his intervention in the matter. The delegation demanded that DC should immediately intervene and get the normal work resumed in all the hospitals in Samba district as people were suffering badly.
They also demanded that the cases against the people be withdrawn and warned that in case their demands were not conceded immediately the people will be forced to resort to agitation and blockade of National Highway.
Later the citizens addressed a joint press conference here and highlighted the issues taken up by them with the DC. They said that people warned to launch agitation in case the administration failed to restore normal functioning in the hospitals.
At Jammu a delegation of Medical Employees Federation led by Sushil Sudan its president submitted a memorandum in Divisional Commissioner’s office reiterating its demands. The delegation while warning to launch agitation in entire Jammu division in case the charter of demands was not conceded said that administration has sought time upto Sunday from them.
The Federation is demanding a probe into the Samba episode to ascertain the facts and action against the people responsible for the attack on CMO.
It also demanded installation of CRPF guard in the Hospital besides action against those police officers in whose presence the CMO was manhandled.
