JAMMU, Oct 3: Protesting against the delay in the investigation of the mysterious death of a youth about a month ago, hundreds of irate residents of Tali Morh along with family members of the deceased today came out on the road to lodge their protest against the Police Department for delay in the investigation and also for shielding the culprits behind.
However, on getting information, police rushed to the spot and tried to pacify the agitators, but the situation turned violent, resulting into police-people clash, in which a Sub-Inspector (SI) of the Police Department was injured during stone pelting from protestors’ side.
The irate residents and family members of Rajinder Kumar, whose body was found lying in a drain at Mana Basti near Tali Morh, Janipura about a month back under mysterious circumstances assembled near Tali Morh and blocked the road, leading to long traffic snarls, sources said.
The protestors were raising slogans against the Police Department for delay in the investigation and shielding the culprits behind the death of the youth, sources added.
As the senior police officers rushed to the spot and asked people to lift their dharna the situation turned violent, leading to police-protestors clash. Police used force to lift the protesters and also resorted to cane-charge, in which few persons received minor injuries, sources informed.
A police Sub Inspector (SI) Suchinder Singh, incharge, Sarwal Police Post was hit by a stone on his ‘lips’ during stone pelting from protestors side. He was rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), where his condition was stated to be stable, when last reports came in, sources added.
Later, on the assurance, the protestors dispersed and vehicular movement was restored, sources maintained.
