Though the UPA Government may have experienced embarrassment at its decision to withdraw the Controversial ordinance on convicted law makers, it certainly has done a good job for the country. The ordinance, if it would have been signed by the President of India, may have become a shield for MPs involved in criminal activities. In absence of it, two MPs found convicted by courts for their involvement in corruption and criminal conspiracy and distribution of MBBS seats illegaly will now have to go jail. Thus a process has been set in motion to purge the Parliament of people involved in crime. The Vice-President of the Congress Party Rahul Gandhi deserves praise for opposing the ordinance, and being instrumental for its withdrawal. Had he not done so, the ordinance despite opposition by the opposition may have been signed by the President. The young leader knows that the country was in no mood to honour such an ordinance. By taking this bold step, Rahul Gandhi has endeared to Indian masses particularly young generation and burst the BJP baloon over this issue.
