Ceasefire violations increased: Govt

SRINAGAR, Oct 4:  The Government today said ceasefire violations from across the Line of Control (LoC) have increased this year with 105 such incidents reported in Jammu province alone.
“The incidents of ceasefire violations this year have increased along the LoC. Upto September 25 this year, 105 cases of ceasefire violations have been reported in Jammu province which include the areas of Poonch and Rajouri,” Minister for Panchayati Raj, Ali Mohammad Sagar informed the Legislative Council.
Sagar said the Government does not have any proposal to shift the people from these areas which are affected by the “unprovoked” firing along LoC.
“At present there is no proposal for shifting or rehabilitation of the people of border areas under the consideration of Government,” he said, replying to a question of National Conference MLC Shehnaz Ganai about the steps taken by the Government to shift or rehabilitate and provide compensation to the affected people living along LoC.
About the compensation paid by the Government to the people injured in the cross firing, Sagar said Rs. 55, 000 have been paid out of Red Cross to six injured persons in Poonch district, adding, there has been no report of loss of life or injury to any person in Rajouri and Jammu districts.
