Infiltration bid foiled, 3 killed

Srinagar, Oct 4:  Army today foiled a major infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Keran sector of North Kashmir, killing three militants.
A Srinagar based Defence spokesman said here that militants  made an attempt to infiltrate early today in Gujjurtur area in Keran sector adjacent to Shalabato where major operation against infiltrators is in progress.
While giving details, the spokesman said that Army observed suspicious movement of infiltrating militants, and when challenged a heavy firefight ensued, resulting in killing of three militants.
“Two dead bodies of slain militants have been recovered along with three AK 47s, four pistols, one Yeasu set, three bags with warlike stores. The body of third terrorist is observed to be lying just across Line of Control along Kilpara Nar”, the spokesman said.
The spokesman said that massive searches have been launched in the area to ensure that no militant managed to infiltrate.
In the meantime, the operation against the infiltrators in the nearby Shalabato village of Keran sector entered 11th day today, said the spokesman adding intermittent exchange of firing was going on in the area.
The spokesman said that a group of heavily-armed militants tried to infiltrate into Kashmir through Keran sector on September 24 but were intercepted by the Army.
General Officer Commanding of the 15 Corps Lt Gen Gurmit Singh had said the strength of infiltrators was between 30 and 40 and the analysis of the operation indicated presence of special troops among the militants.
Lt Gen Singh had said that 10 to 12 militants were killed on September 26 while operation was on against the remaining infiltrators is in progress.
