SRINAGAR, Oct 5: In view of spurt in infiltration attempts from across the border, a top army commander, on a 4-day visit to Kashmir, today stock of the security scenario in the valley.
Lt Gen Sanjiv Chachra, Army Commander, Northern Command, was briefed by army commanders about the prevailing security scenario in their areas of responsibility, an army spokesman said.
He said Lt Gen Chachra, who arrived here today, visited headquarters of the sector Rashtriya Rifles along with Chinar Corps Commander, Lt Gen Gurmit Singh.
Lt Gen Chachra carried out aerial recce of forward posts and expressed satisfaction over the preparedness of security forces in ensuring safety and security of the people.
He praised the “high-level” of synergy existing among police, CRPF and army, the spokesman said.
During his visit, the Army Commander will visit forward formations and units to review the anti-infiltration grid and ongoing operations conducted by the army.
Lt Gen Chachra will also call on Governor N N Vohra and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah during his stay here. (AGENCIES)
