Jora undertakes extensive tour of Leh villages

LEH, June 13: Minister for Tourism and Culture, Nawang Rigzin Jora today visited the villages of Hemis Shukpachan, Yangthang, Saspotse and Likir and took stock of demands and problems of the people.
At Hemis Shukpachan, the Minister inaugurated a steel bridge constructed at a cost of Rs. 25 lakh under NABARD and later attended a public gathering in the village.
The public at Hemis Shukpachan demanded speedy construction of Ang road in Tingmosgang, improvement of Likir Hemis road, black topping of road from Hemis Chu to Hemis Shukpachan road, strengthening of BSNL connectivity and upgradation of MAC. Responding to the demands Jora gave assurance to fulfil their genuine demands.
At Yangthang, Jora inaugurated a RCC culvert constructed under Permanent Restoration Scheme at the cost of Rs.28 lakh. The people demanded early completion of irrigation canal, construction of community hall and connecting road from Rizong monastery to Yangthang. The people of Saspotse demanded improvement of circular road and connectivity of the left hamlet with ring road.
During his visit to Likir, the monks of Likir monastery made certain demands which included construction of double road to the monastery, strengthening water supply schemes and improving power supply etc. Similarly, the people of Likir demanded a mini shopping complex in the village as many of the villagers are artisans and are involved in handicraft works, and asked for upgradation of medical sub centre to allopathic dispensary, improvement water supply scheme, better power supply, improvement of landline services and filling up of the post of Head Master in village High School that is lying vacant from September 2011.
Mr. Jora assured the villager to start a Rural Artisan Scheme under tourism sector by September this year. He also gave on the spot instructions to the engineers and district officers to undertake early steps to fulfil the demands of the people.
