Samba police seizes 675 kgs of poppy straw, arrests driver

SAMBA, Sept, 30: In a major breakthrough in its drive against drugs, District Police Samba under the overall supervision of SSP Samba, Dr.Abhishek Mahajan, has arrested a narcotics smuggler and recovered huge consignment of about 675 kgs of Poppy Straw (Bhukki) from his possession in the jurisdiction of Police Station (PS) Samba today.

Police said a team of PS Samba along with SOG Jammu/Samba laid a surprise vehicle checking naka at Mansar Morh NHW, Samba and during checking it signaled a truck bearing Registration Number JK03D-4411 to stop. On seeing the naka party, the driver of the vehicle accelerated the speed and tried to flee away from the spot but the alert Naka party after a strong chase intercepted the truck near SIDCO Chowk Samba.
During checking of the vehicle, apart from fruit laden boxes, 98 boxes were found with poppy straw-like substance weighing about 675 kgs which was stcked tactically in fruit boxes to avoid being noticed by the Police during the search.
The accused has been identified as Mohd Yousuf Khan, son of Mohammad Fazil Khan of Chatergul, tehsil & district Anantnag. He has been arrested on the spot and the recovered contraband was seized.
Moreover, the vehicle was also seized on the spot. In this regard, a case FIR No. 242/2022 U/S 8/15/25 NDPS Act registered at PS Samba and further investigation is in progress.
