Medical employees call off strike after administration accepts demands

SAMBA, Oct 5: With Government agreeing its four point charter of demands the J&K Medical Employees Federation today called off its ongoing strike.
The decision in this regard was taken by the Federation leaders led by its president Sushil Kumar Sudan after holding a meeting with Deputy Commissioner Samba, R K Varma this afternoon. The meeting among others was attended by Dr Anil Kumar Amla, Deputy Director Health Services, Incharge Headquarter, Jarnail Choudhary, Yougal Bakshi, Kulmet Singh, Bharat Bushan Bhagat, Manzoor Hussian, Anil Kesar, R P Singh, Kamaljeet Sawhney, Harpal Singh, Parfulet Singh, Anoop Singh and members of civil society from Samba.
Talking to Excelsior later Sudan said since the Government has accepted the demands the Federation will call of its strike.
He said the meeting was held in a cordial manner and DC Samba informed the meeting that the administration has already ordered a detailed probe into happenings at Samba Hospital and a Committee has been constituted in this regard.
The DC also agreed that action under law will be taken against those who assaulted CMO Samba and ransacked the Samba District Hospital as well as those police officers who remained mute spectators to the same soon after the Enquiry Committee submits its report.
Regarding deployment of CRPF, the DC Samba has ordered deployment of 10 Haryana Police personnel at DH Samba for security purposes.
It may be recalled that doctors and paramedical staff of District Hospital Samba as well as other hospitals of the district went on indefinite strike on September 30 after the frenzy mob assaulted CMO Samba and ransacked the hospital protesting against the death of a girl due to Dengue fever after not being treated properly in the hospital forcing her family to shift her to Punjab where she died later.
Later the J&K Medical Employees Federation warned to go for indefinite strike in entire Jammu region if the culprits were not arrested and their other demands including installation of CRPF guard at DH Samba were not accepted.
