Rajendra visits border police posts, highlights role of VDCs

JAMMU, June 13: The Director General of Police K. Rajendra Kumar has lauded the role of Village Defence Committees in combating insurgency in border areas of the State and stressed to continue efforts for maintaining peace in such areas.
Rajendra was on his one day visit to border posts in Kuthua, Samba and Jammu districts. During his extensive visit, he interacted with the people and the members of Village Defence Committees (VDCs). He said that the sacrifices of the VDCs and cooperation of the people of these areas have proved instrumental in combating insurgency. The people of the State especially of border areas have suffered a lot on part of disturbances for about two decades and a sense of security has now been prevailed which needs to be maintained. VDC members and the SPOs worked in tough situations and showed their courage and valour in curbing the activities of anti national elements, he said.
DGP exhorted upon the cops and the VDCs in these areas to strengthen their relations with the people and ensure lasting peace and atmosphere of security. “People’s cooperation is mandatory for result oriented policing and the cops have to strengthen the bonds with them”, said the DGP. “Our priority is safety of people and integrity of the nation, which would be maintained at every cost”, he added.
Referring to the sacrifices by the people and the VDCs in fighting insurgency, the DGP said that efforts needs to be continued in fighting the menace of cross border crimes like fake currency, smuggling and drug trafficking. He said that criminals are posing great challenge to the law enforcing agencies, who are also indulging in anti national activities.
Inspector General of Police, Jammu Zone, Dilbagh Singh, who was accompanying the DGP briefed him about the working of Village Defence Committees. He also apprised about the steps taken for bringing improvement in the border police posts.
Mr. Rajendra during his visit to border Posts of Chakrohi, Badyal Brahamana, Agrachak, Baspur, Sai Kalan, Triwa, Nandpura, Dugg, Abtal, Dewangarh, Kamar, Kolpur, Mawa, Baba Nallah, Rajpur, Kullian and Narhi, was accompanied by Deputy Inspector General of Police, Jammu Kathua Range, J.P. Singh, SSP Samba , Israr Ahmed Khan, SSP Jammu, Prabhat Singh, SSP Kathua, A.K.Goel, ASP Kathua, Zahid Manhas, SDM R.S.Pura, Suraj Rukwal, ASP Samba Dr. Koushal Kumar, SP Traffic Rural Jammu, Surjeet Kumar and SP Hqrs. Jammu, Shalinder Singh .
He interacted with the people in these areas to know their problems and assured that the issues would be taken up with the appropriate authorities. He also assured the VDCs and SPOs that their problems would be looked into and solved in a phased manner.
