No proposal to regularise NYC: Taj

SRINAGAR, Oct 5: There is no proposal to reappoint or regularise the National Youth Corps (NYC) who were appointed in 2010 for two years as per directions from the Union Government.
This information was given by Youth Service and Sports Minister Taj Mohi-ud-Din in the Legislative Assembly here today.
The issue of NYC was raised by Communist Party of India (M) member Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami when the House was discussing development of play fields and grounds.
Mr Tarigami said that 8000 youths in the Jammu and Kashmir  were appointed NYC in 2010 who are now protesting after they were terminated.
Mr Taj said it is true that 8000 youths were appointed under the Government of India scheme in the state for two years.
However, GoI has refused to give second term to those already appointed as NYC, Mr Taj said, adding “we took the matter with many quarters without getting any positive response.”
He said “recently Director General (DG) of NYC was here. We bring this to his notice and requested him that we should allow  to continue with the NYC appointed in 2008, the Minister said, adding but he outrightly rejected it.
The DG said that only Prime Minister can order continuation of these NYC.
Mr Taj said “we were also asked to appoint more 40,000 in  five terms, which we refused as we wanted to continue those appointed in 2010.”
When some members drew his attention on the recent statement of Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz that the appointments of NYC will be extended, Mr Taj said he has no such information.
