JAMMU, Oct 5: The Intelligence agencies have intercepted vital conversation between two commanders of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) confirming involvement of Pakistan based commanders of the outfit in twin terror attacks at Hiranagar and Samba on September 26 in which 10 persons were killed.
Pakistan Army had arranged all logistic support for the militants before they set off for the attack, official sources said.
“The Call Sign 88 and H4 (Hotel 4) used by the militants during the conversation, intercepted by the Intelligence sleuths, is commonly used by the Jaish outfit, which has given new twist to twin terror attacks, which were earlier being attributed to Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) outfit,’’ sources said, adding that the attacks had either been exclusively carried out by the JeM outfit or in unison with the LeT cadre.
According to sources, the conversation has been intercepted by a Central Intelligence agency, which has forwarded its report to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
The reports said a JeM ‘area commander’ was conversing with the outfit’s ‘control room’ in Pakistan apprising them of the successful infiltration attack by three fidayeens at Hiranagar and Samba. They added that the two Jaish commanders were using Call Sign 88 and Hotel 4, which were part of the outfit.
The Intelligence agency has cautioned that another group of the militants has either managed to infiltrate into this side or was in the process of intrusion. However, security forces and police were of the view that people at forward village of Hariya Chak, where the suicide bombers had boarded a load carrier, had confirmed presence of only three militants. Moreover, subsequent searches by Army, CRPF and police hadn’t indicated movement of any other group of infiltrators.
The Intelligence report based on the conversation of two top Jaish commanders has given a new twist to twin terror attacks at Hiranagar police station and Mehsar Army camp at Samba on September 26 in which 10 persons including four Army personnel, four police constables and two civilians were killed. The three fidayeens were eliminated by the troops at Mehsar Army camp.
Earlier, it was being believed that the terror attacks were handiwork of the LeT outfit though a little known militant outfit ‘Al Shuhada Brigade’ had claimed responsibility of the attack. Moreover, the fidayeen attacks were similar to the ones earlier carried out by the LeT outfit.
The Intelligence agency has cautioned that the militants, who had either infiltrated or might try to infiltrate from across, could carry out another strike. Sources said security forces and police have already been observing a very high alert in entire Jammu region to thwart intrusion bids. Security at all vital installations has been beefed up, they added.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Army resorted to firing for third consecutive day today at Sona Gali, Choi Gali, Lohara Gali and Tain area in Mankote sector of Poonch district at 5.30 pm.
The Indian side retaliated and the firing ceased at 7.30 pm.
This was for third consecutive day that Pakistan Army had opened firing and violated ceasefire in Sona Gali and surrounding areas of Mankote sector. Sources said Pakistan Army was reportedly trying to give cover to a group of infiltrators but effective retaliatory firing by the Indian side has not allowed the militants to succeed.
Sources confirmed that there was heavy presence of militants both across the LoC and IB in Jammu region and the militants were awaiting an opportunity to sneak in. Army and BSF were maintaining a very high alert on LoC and IB to thwart the intrusion bids. Police have beefed up security at all sensitive zones in Jammu region to thwart any possible attack.
IGP Jammu Zone Rajesh Kumar was monitoring security arrangements at all the places along with other senior Army officials.
Meanwhile, the BSF today handed over Pakistani infiltrator, who was captured yesterday in an injured condition at Paharpur post on the International Border in Hiranagar sector, to police.
Official sources said the intruder identified as Akhter Hussain son of Sharif R/o Marjal, Shakargarh in Narowal area of Pakistan, aged 31, was handed over to Rajbagh police station in Kathua district after he was discharged from Military Hospital, Satwari.
A case against him has been registered at Rajbagh police station, where he was being quizzed for his militancy links.
Sources said he was likely to be shifted to Joint Interrogation Centre (JIC) soon for questioning. The intruder was believed to be a guide of the militants.
