JAMMU, Oct 2: All India Backward Classses Federation and J&K OBC Mahasabha today said that the Other Backwards Classes category people in J&K are waiting for justice for long.
Addressing a joint press conference here today, senior members of the these organizations, F C Saitia and Bansi Lal Choudhary reiterated the long pending issues of the Other Backward Classes in the Jammu and Kashmir.
They said when 27 % reservation for the OBCs was implemented in whole of the country in 1993, it was not implemented in the Jammu and Kashmir on the pretext of article 370. Since then the OBC people are continuing their struggle to achieve constitutional rights. The core issue, they said, was to implement Central Reservation Policy in J&K at par with the other UTs of the country.
They said the Supreme Court of India has provisioned 27 % quota for OBCs which is pending for implementation in J&K for the last 28 years. The OBC people in J&K have been struggling since 1992 but the quota of 27% was not implemented in J&K because of Article 370. Now when the Article 370 has been abrogated and state has turned into UT , all other central laws have been extended to the J&K, the reservation is not being implemented in the Jammu and Kashmir.
As per Reservation Act 2005, erstwhile J&K state was provided 4 % reservation to the OBCs under different nomenclature (OSC) ad different eligible criteria. When the State was converted into UT on Aug 5, 2019, it was promised that each and every section will get justice in J&K. But now even after three years the OBCs are still waiting for seeking justice at the hands of the BJP Government at the Centre.
They urged the visiting Union Home Minister Amit Shah to pay attention to the issues of OBCs in J&K and provide 27% quota to them by implementing Mandal Commission Report in J&K UT.
