RAJOURI, June 13: The people from Rajouri town and adjoining areas held massive protest demonstration against the PHE authorities and staged dharna on Jammu-Poonch Highway, disrupting movement of vehicular traffic for about three hours here today.
Irate public from Ward No. 11 and adjoining areas was protesting acute shortage of drinking water in the town and adjoining areas. At around 9, the local residents in large number came out on the road near Mini-stadium in the town here and raised barricades on main Jammu-Rajouri-Poonch road. Later, they sat on dharna, stalling movement of traffic.
A large number of vehicles remained stranded on the road for nearly three hours. The agitating people were raising slogans against PHE Minister, Chief Engineer and concerned Executive Engineer, Rajouri. Later, PHE officials and SHO concerned reached the spot. The PHE officials assured the public that water supply position will be improved with in a day or two.
The people on assurance, then lifted dharna and cleared the road.
