RAJOURI, Oct 6: The District Administration today imposed restrictions on holding any protest or rally as preventive measures, sensing violence after youths from two communities had clash over a minor issue and the arrest of an activists from the Youth Wing of BJP.
Reports said that a bandh call in Rajouri town was given after a meeting of some leaders from BJYM, BJP, VHP, S D Sabha and Bajrang Dal last evening. Over this, the members from one community observed complete bandh today. The District Administration imposed restrictions and did not allow any protest march or gathering within the jurisdiction of Rajouri town today. Additional deployment of police and paramilitary forces was also made to control any possible spurt of violence in any part of the town.
A police spokesman said that a youth namely Mohil Malhotra, resident of Rajouri has been arrested in connection with the attack on one Mohd Tariq and Shehnaz Ahmed, sons of Kabir Hussain, resident of Naban Mohalla in the town. Tariq sustained serious injuries and was referred to GMC Hospital Jammu. The clash between the two groups of youth had over a small issue of parking. The youth from other side alleged that some boys from other community pelted stone on `Shakha’ on Friday. He said nine youth including some BJYM activists have been booked in connection with attack on both brothers. A counter FIR has also been lodged by the other party and the police was investigating into the case.
Meanwhile, VHP, SD Sabha and other organizations today declared to observe a complete bandh in Rajouri town tomorrow. In a joint handout issued here today leaders of these organizations demanded that those involved in stone pelting on RSS activists during `Shakha’ be arrested and a case be registered against them. They also condemned the arrest of BJYM activist and demanded his release. They criticized police and local administration for its biased approach and said that fair investigation be conducted.
