JAMMU, Oct 7: Research Hub in Education and Teacher Education of Government College of Education today organized one-day workshop on “Role of Statistical Package For Social Sciences (SPSS) in Educational Research”.
In the workshop, all the constituent colleges and schools of the Cluster University of Jammu along with Spoke Colleges of Research Hub of GCOE participated. The workshop started with the lighting of ceremonial lamp by the Principal of the Government College of Education Prof Aekta Gupta, chief guest Dr Zubair Kales, Dean Faculty of Education, Cluster University of Jammu and Dr Hardeep Chahal of Department of Commerce, University of Jammu and Prof Parmil Kumar, Professor and Head, Department of Statistics, University of Jammu, who were the Resource person for two technical sessions.
In her presidential address, Principal of GCOE Prof Aekta Gupta said that the New Education Policy seeks to introduce and implement sea of changes across all levels of education. She said that all out efforts are being made to encourage research work in the GCOE as NEP intends to create a future where the child is at the heart of research-based and individualized learning.
In his address, Dr Zubair Kales, Dean Faculty of Education, Cluster University of Jammu mentioned that such workshops would help to enhance the knowledge in statistical analysis and interpretation through SPSS.
Dr Sushma Bala, Coordinator Research Hub explained the importance of research development process especially for the researchers and shared the activities being conducted by Research Hub.
Organizing Secretary Dr. Shubhra Jamwal said that the workshop is aimed at providing sound fundamental base to the concepts and practical training through the software.
The first session was taken by Dr Hardeep Chahal in which she focused on the SPSS structure, interface, variables and its measurement, Data Entry in SPSS, handling of different types of questions in SPSS, Data Cleaning, handling of missing values and outliners. Some other important topics, tools and techniques were also discussed including Hypothesis Testing, Normality of Data etc.
The second session was taken by Prof. Parmil Kumar, who gave a detailed presentation on SPSS. He said that SPSS is one of the most popular software used by researchers widely as SPSS has enabled academicians and researchers to obtain valuable information from the data.
Members of the Advisory Committee Prof. Anju Bala, Dr. Jyoti Parihar, Dr. Anuradha Seth, Prof. Shamboo Nath and Dr. Deep Kumar Bangotra along with members of Research Hub Committee Dr. Maansi Sharma, Prof. Shapia Shameem, Prof. Sarita Dogra, Prof. Sunita Devi, Prof. Neeraj Verma and Prof. Vinay Lata were present on the occasion.
