JAMMU, Oct 9: Targeting BJP for trampling democracy in the country, former J&K Chief Minister and PDP president, Mehbooba Mufti today said that this party has betrayed the people of Jammu region in every respect and installed people from outside at important positions in the Union Territory.
Addressing a party meeting here today, Mehbooba Mufti said BJP always speaks to Jammu people claiming that they will make a CM from Jammu. “ If BJP leaders are so true to their words , commitment and sincere towards people of Jammu, they should have installed a Lt Governor from Jammu and Kashmir, or Advisors or even Chief Secretary from Jammu and Kashmir. Why they are bringing people from Bihar or Uttar Pradesh. Don’t they (BJP) find any body capable in J&K for these positions?”, Mehbooba asked.

“At least they should have installed Dr Karan Singh as Governor or Lt Governor of the Jammu and Kashmir or any body else. Even they brought a Chairman of the J&K Bank from outside. They targeted former Chairman of the J&K Bank from Kashmir but they even failed to bring a Bank Chairman from Jammu region and inducted outsider,” the former CM alleged.
“Today nobody in the administration listens to the general public. The people not only from Kashmir but from Jammu who rendered massive support to BJP in 2014 are badly suffering. This party has betrayed even the people of Jammu. Late Mufti Sahib had joined hands with BJP respecting people’s verdict as Jammu people had given massive mandate to this party. But the people are today repenting and feeling duped,” Mufti alleged.
She pointed out that BJP is the largest party in the world today but it is also true that BJP has become the richest party during last eight years. She termed BJP as the most ‘corrupt party’.
Referring to the alleged recruitment scam after which the Lt Governor’s Administration cancelled recruitment for the post of Sub Inspectors (SIs) in J&K Police, Finance Accounts Assistants (FAA) and Junior Engineers in PW(R&B), Mehbooba said this is the biggest ever recruitment scam in the history of J&K. “Why Lt Governor is avoiding to expose names of those involved in this recruitment scams? People know if the names are exposed, then it will become a big trouble for ‘many’ closer to the system,” Mehbooba asserted.
The PDP president said that the names of the people involved in the scam be exposed. The people want to know about the people playing with the future of the highly qualified and genuine candidates who put their hard work to clear the exams.
“If there is any corrupt party on the face of earth, it is BJP. How did it become the richest party in the past eight years?” the PDP leader asked, accusing the party of using money power to bring down elected Governments.
“People are electing their representatives and the government. They are buying each MLAs for Rs 50 crore after the Enforcement Directorate, CBI, NIA and ACB fail to deliver in accordance with their plan,” she alleged.
However, Mehbooba said, the people need to stand up and strengthen all those who can safeguard the country and its democratic institutions.
She lauded Congress’ Rahul Gandhi for his ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ and said the people need to support him as he is fighting to safeguard the country and its democratic institutions from the onslaught of the BJP.
She said Rahul Gandhi is being targeted by the BJP because he is from the Gandhi family which has a history of sacrifice for the country.
“They are defaming Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru who played a key role in the freedom struggle, went to jail and laid the foundations of a strong India. They describe his great grandson Rahul Gandhi as ‘Shahzada’ (prince) because he is on the road (for Bharat Jodo Yatra), braving inclement weather, to unite and safeguard the country and its democratic institutions,” Mehbooba said.
Accusing the BJP of being afraid of secularism and democracy, she alleged that it has divided the country in the name of religion and regions for its vested political interests.
Listing people from political families who are members of the BJP, she said the difference between Gandhi and the BJP dynasts is that his family had a long contribution for the nation as Nehru was jailed for over a decade during the freedom struggle, while his grandmother Indira Gandhi and father Rajiv Gandhi sacrificed their lives for the country.
“Tell me the name of one BJP leader who went to jail for freedom of the country, leave aside sacrificing his life. You went to Balakote (in Pakistan) and used it to win the 2019 (Parliamentary) elections,” she said, referring to the Air Force strike across the border in response to the Pulwama terror attack in February 2019.
