Seismologists visit Doda

DODA, Oct 7: A team of 8 seismologists headed by Vice -Chancellor University of Kashmir, Talat Ahamad today visited Doda to take onspot assessment of the recent seismicity being observed in the erstwhile Doda district.
The team convened a meeting of the officers of Engineering Departments, media persons and prominent citizens in DC Office which was attended by the District Development Commissioner Doda Mubarak Singh, Senior Superintendent of Police Doda Arif Rishu, Additional District Development Commissioner Doda G.N Balwan and Chief Planning Officer Doda Yoginder Katoch besides other officers also attended the meeting.
While addressing the meeting, Vice -Chancellor University of Kashmir said  that as per the available data of the depth of epicenter of recent earthquakes and aftershocks it seems that the Hydro Electric Power Projects in the region are not responsible for the recent seismic activity as the water reservoir created by these power projects cannot  reaches to that extent.
Mr. Talat said the team will study the nature and type of rocks in the region and demarcate the locations for installing the sophisticated equipments to monitor the seismic activity even small movement of earth plates also.
He said school and college students must be made aware through workshops about the precautionary measures to be taken in advance and during such calamities. The  Seismology experts also spoke on the occasion.
DDC Doda Mubarak Singh while speaking on the occasion said that the cautious steps and precautionary measures shared by the experts will be implemented effectively in the District to deal with such natural calamities.
