India Post organises workshop on Philately Day

JAMMU, Oct 11: Amazing postage stamps were seen spreading fragrance of sandal wood, roses and Jasmine at Shri Guru Govind Singh Higher Secondary School Kunjwani and students enjoyed to see plenty of beautiful stamps displayed by the Department of Post, Jammu Division.
The occasion was celebration of Philately Day in which Philately workshop was organized at the School.
Principal Gurtaj Singh welcomed all the students and faculty members and Col. Vinod Kumar, Postmaster General briefed them about Philately and called it as King of Hobbies or Hobbies of Kings.
He intimated that tiny postage stamps open windows to the world of knowledge and the students were surprised to know about the Panny Black-first stamp of the world which was printed in the year 1840 in Britain followed by postal stationery and stamps released by the postal department from time to time.
Col. Vinod informed that there are many more stamps with fragrance of coffee also.
A stamp printed in brail was also displayed at the workshop.
Other stamps displayed were those of Dr. Ambedkar, Dr. Kalam and on various themes like Swacch Bharat, girls empowerment and latest Corona warriors.
Biography of Mahatma Gandhi was also displayed in the form of stamps. Special exhibit was the collection of scented stamps of sandalwood, rose and jasmine.
Quiz competition, letter box painting competition and stamp design competition were also organized with the support of Charanjit Kour, Ankita Anand and other faculty members and the winners were given prizes by Col. Vinod Kumar.
On request of the Principal, all the exhibits on Philately will be displayed for next three days at the same venue.
