JAMMU, Oct 13: SDM Marh, Rajeev Khajuria here today reviewed the preparations for ensuing week long Jhiri Mela, North India’s second biggest fair after Pushkar Mela of Rajasthan.
The Jhiri Mela is going to being organized from November 7 this year.
Since the historic Jhiri Mela couldn’t be organized for the last two years due to COVID restrictions, more than 10 lakh pilgrims from all over the country and abroad are expected to visit the event.
Preparations on part of all the departments including R&B, PHE, PDD, I&FC, Police, Health, RDD, CAPD, Food Safety, Legal Metrology, Information, Tourism, Fire Services, Civil Defence etc were reviewed threadbare and instructions were issued to all departments by SDM Marh, who is also Mela Officer.
The officers were asked to take necessary steps as per the instructions already conveyed by DC Jammu yesterday and as per past practices, to plug the gaps if any, and put best efforts to ensure that no inconvenience is caused to the visiting pilgrims.
Emphasis was laid on sanitation, health and hygiene, security, food safety, clean drinking water etc so that all the visiting devotees can experience safe, secure and comfortable spiritual sojourn.
The SDM along with all concerned officers also visited the sites in the area where departmental stalls shall be installed along with other facilities and issued on spot instructions to the departments.
SDPO Domana, Sunil Singh; Tehsildar & Naib Tehsildar Marh, BDO Marh, SHO Kanachak and others were also present on the occasion.
